Renovation woes…
How many of you like me have suffered renovation woes. After my renovations, I end up finding a JB electrician to rip out the rubbish works and re-do.
Well, I guess it’s universal.
But I strongly believe in JB, it is worse than usual because many tradesmen are over at neighboring Singapore to seek out work. Especially since the currency and hence pay is so much better.
As a result, it is hard to find reliable and knowledgeable contractors who will handover perfectly after the completion of renovation.
Consequently, you end up suffering renovation woes. Even though the renovation is to improve your quality of life, it turns out to be the opposite!
My toilet lights suck!
So my ex-contractor cheaped out, buying LED lights that does not stick well to the surfaces and also have poor contact points at the joints.
As a result, the lights flicker and goes out. Just when you need it most…
In addition, he used a China made transformer which burnt out in less than 6 months of usage.
Finding a JB electrician to redo my toilet lights
Unfortunately, this is the most painful step.
Where you have to go look up one by one and test them out. See if they are able to first understand what you want. And then after that produce quality work. After which, hopefully makes your life better.
I first start looking at google maps and the reviews. Which allow me to rule out a handful of them who do not reply to my inquiries. The one that do, passed me a number to another electrician.
For starters, I am happy with his quick response. And there is a fair bit of back and forth with him providing me with professional opinions of how and what he will do. Communication skills, check!
Finding a JB electrician who knows what to do and charges fairly!
So, he comes over to have a look at what needs to done. And the consultation charge for that is very reasonable, in fact, the cheapest!
During this stage, we identified the LED lights to replace the old ones, as well as re-wiring to remove the transformers.
The amazing thing is that after the discussion, he asked me to go buy the lights I want because what he found when he went to the shops was that they were all unreasonably expensive. Typically, contractors will buy the supplies as this is where they can unscrupulously add an additional margin.

I end up buying T5 LED warm lights (3000K) as well as the connectors. These lights have a specific fitting at each end which is why they are T5. And all in, I spent not more than RM350 for refitting 2 bathrooms.
What a bargain!
Although I hope the house with not have anymore electrical problems, but this unfortunately is inevitable. If such a new electrical problem turns up, I know who I will be looking for!
