There are a number of Singapore Telco roaming in Malaysia plans these days that are quite reasonable in terms of pricing and service availability.
To start off, I don’t think there is a best Singapore Telco roaming in Malaysia plan for you. Rather it is what is the best plan that can fit your needs.
I am going to provide my perspective for your reference after permanently shifting into JB, Malaysia (since 2020) and holding onto a Singapore line.
Please note that I am not sponsored (obviously since I am a nobody) and what I say about Singapore Telco roaming in Malaysia plans is purely IMHO.
Why pick a Singapore Telco that can roam in Malaysia
These days, there are more and more reasons crossing over to Malaysia from Singapore. I list my many reasons for not just crossing over BUT actually living in JB, Malaysia.
Since I have so many things tied to my SG number, I decide to hold on to the mobile plan to retain my SG number. And because of the ease of number portability, changing it to a Singapore Telco roaming in Malaysia plan that suits me best.
As such, I do not need to keep buying temporary data sims. These are definitely more expensive than Singapore Telco roaming in Malaysia plans that comes with your postpaid subscriptions.
Singapore Telco Roaming in Malaysia plan when you live in JB [Q2, 2026]
Relocating to Johor Bahru (JB) requires seamless communication channels for personal, work, and administrative purposes. Especially when I am out and about exploring the Malaysian peninsular. This means that there is enough data I can use when driving and using navigation apps.
I sought a telco plan that would allow me to retain my SG number, roam hassle-free in Malaysia, and offer sufficient data for exploration and daily use without incurring extra service fees.
After exploring various options, Simba $10/month stood out as the best fit.
Its postpaid plan boasts the lowest cost per GB of data per month, combining SG and MY data use into the same bucket (now with additional Indonesia, Thailand and Hong Kong). This makes it an attractive choice for heavy data users like myself. I appreciated it enormously recently when my JB home broadband went down for 2 freaking days during Christmas 2024. In this difficult period (haha), I gobbled up 5Gb of roaming mobile data per day.
Additionally, with VOLTE-enabled voice calls, I can connect with contacts back in SG without incurring roaming fees – a feature that has proven invaluable for communicating with the fee hungry SG banks.
And new since 1st May 2026, is the ability to roll over base+APAC+Global roaming data for up to 6 cycles. Previously, $12/month covers all my needs including traveling. Now, I can further reduce my expenditure even further!!
What’s more, my Singapore Telco Roaming in Malaysia plan eliminates the need for special procedures in seeking SG network reception in JB. Otherwise, it can be a hassle. I can simply dial and connect, enjoying convenient communication with SG contacts.
1 positive and 2 negatives about SIMBA that is not really negative [for me, update 2026]
Recently, Simba has also improved its international roaming capabilities, offering an additional 3GB of data for use Internationally as well as 12Gb of data use in APAC countries (Australia, Bangladesh, China, New Zealand, South Korea, Taiwan and Vietnam). Especially now that all data roll over for 6 cycles!
This makes things extremely convenient for me. I just allow roaming to be ON ALL THE TIME. I do not need to toggle the option nor worry about being unreasonably charged.
In addition, this removes the need for me to get a travel SIM COMPLETELY when I travel elsewhere.
The negative is that many complain about the network coverage in Singapore being mediocre. I am not too sure how’s that now, considering the merger with M1?
Well, this doesn’t affect me since I do not spend much time in Singapore.
Next, for some reason SIMBA’s definition for APAC keeps changing. And Japan does not feature inside APAC in the $10/month plan! Isn’t Japan in APAC??!
In addition, previously, for e.g. if you finish the base data and you are in Malaysia, you can still tap on the APAC data. As you can see from the APAC definition that is no longer the case. The 2 categories of APAC and base data are now mutually exclusive.
Despite it all, SIMBA’s plan is still the best fit (for me). If you DON’T live in JB/MY then my recommendations will change. Please read on.
Bonus Tip to ease of using your high roaming data plan
I typically have a couple of devices and also share my Singapore Telco Roaming in Malaysia plan data with friends. This is especially crucial if they do not have roaming plans or are expensive. Or they are unable to have roaming activated.
So for convenience, I will stick the sim card into a mobile router. Then I switch on the Wifi so as to hotspot the data out. Most importantly, SIMBA has no restrictions on hotspots nor any data limits when activating hotspot.
Singapore Telco Roaming in Malaysia plan when you are doing a day/road/business trip
Since you are not living in JB, then the data requirements are not as high.
However, back in Singapore where you spend more time, you prioritize great connection. Then my recommendations are as follows.
Those who are just going on a day, road or business trip, Eight $8/30days is ideal. This is because you do not need that much roaming data and the Singapore data plan is also generous and more reliable. Eight on Starhub network in Singapore. I previously list Maxx but since it rides on M1, which will merge with SIMBA, I will take that recommendation out for now since I am not sure how it their arrangement will be.
The eight plan is also slightly cheaper than the earlier plan I use. When M1 was recently snapped up by SIMBA, I can see lesser attractive options in the horizon. Watch this space for the next update!
Singapore Telco Roaming in Malaysia plan for your kid
So there is this situation where you want to diversify your data availability AND you have family.
This is because the Service providers can go down or you are going to a part of Malaysia where the connection may not be great. This happens especially in rural areas.
I will suggest the giga! 4G 100GB plan.
This is because the Singapore data is lower than all the plans earlier. This allows you to control the data consumption and instill responsibility to your kid. Not only that, the plans come with rollover data.
Especially if data consumption is maxing out then your kid may be incentivized to save it for the next month.
When you are in Malaysia, and for some reason you need another connection, this can also be your backup. haha.

Low cost JB postpaid when living in JB
Depending on where you live in JB, you will have to add a MY plan.
Why do I say depending? For some who open need to open service accounts in JB, e.g. bank accounts, fiber, utilities etc, they frequently request a MY number to contact you. Although some companies are able to accept a foreign number, most do not.
This is especially important since some banks, for you to log-in or make certain transactions will send out SMS OTPs which will come through a MY number. And the SMS-OTP is a compulsory verification for these banks for example.
In such situations, it makes sense to have a MY line in addition to an SG line.
Why I use Yoodo (but you can’t get it now)
Whilst it is not the absolute cheapest service provider, my choice goes to Yoodo. On a monthly basis, I subscribe to the RM5 plan with 100 MY calling minutes to maintain my line.
However, the company has closed and transferred over to Celcom Digi.
This plan however is not publicly available anymore.
If there are alternatively equivalent plans worth considering, then I will update this section in the future.
